Chainsaw chain tension is also very important and should be tight enough so your drive links are firmly against the bar all the way around while still being able to free wheel the chain around by hand. If your bar tip is not fitted with a sprocket the chain should be slightly looser. You should be able to pull down on the chain let it go and have it snap back firmly into the bar. Do not adjust the tension if the chain is hot.
Remember to always follow your manufacturers recommendations for check for proper tension and when to replace your chain.
